Looking for a way to get out of the house during the Labor Day weekend, Connor came up with a good idea. He wanted to go to Artsy Me, a place we had been to BP (Before Pandemic) and where he had gone with daycare in years past.
The concept is simple; select an item to paint, pick the
colors you want and get started.
In a way it reminded me of wooden Christmas ornaments we
painted growing up. There were patterns like a Christmas tree, reindeer and the
like. They weren’t the neatest things, and I’ll take the rap for painting
outside the lines, but they became the ones I looked forward to decorating the
tree with and the most cherished.
Unfortunately, the first thing that struck me upon entering
the small establishment was that the shop’s manager was not wearing a mask and
neither were the seven people already inside. Seeing as we were all masked, we
continued.
With a bowl of water to clean brushes before switching
colors, Connor’s tray of paint remained intact,
while not surprisingly Harper’s did not take long to turn into a blended rainbow.
The best part was watching their creativity at full force. I
have no expectation that what Connor and Harper created---a Man Cave mug and small
pumpkin, respectively, will last throughout the years, but hopefully they’ll look
back on them with fondness.
