Our first big trip from Okinawa was to Tokyo in mid-August to conquer Japan’s highest mountain, Mount Fuji.
We began our ascent at 5:30 a.m. at 5,000 ft., reaching the summit approximately seven hours later, having hiked/climbed close to 7,000 ft. It took four hours to make the descent and may have been mentally tougher. The only incentive for finishing was a seat on the bus and rest, not the satisfaction of making it to the top which helped keep us going at spots.
It was Melanie’s first time on the mountain, Scott’s second and most likely the last time for both.
