Before the actual review begins, I must say I saw the preview for a remake of an 80s classic and possibly generation-defining movie, "Footloose." A few old stars mix in with a new crop, but can it really be anything but blasphemous? Kevin Bacon is turning over in his grave!
Some people can probably relate to the situation Jason Bateman (Nick Hendricks), Charlie Day (Dale Arbus) and Jason Sudeikis (Kurt Buckman) find themselves in with regards to their supervisors-although hopefully at a much less despicable level.
The bosses, played wonderfully terrible by Kevin Spacey, a dark-haired Jennifer Aniston and a transformed Colin Farrell, steal the scenes they're in with their over-the-top personas. Unfortunately there isn't nearly enough of Farrell, who takes over as Buckman's boss after a short cameo by Donald Sutherland. Aniston shows she's still in good shape while harrassing her dental assistant (Day) and Spacey knows how to mistreat Bateman.
Separate incidents drive Bateman and company to consider hiring a hitman to off their bosses, and that search is as funny as any of the parts of the movie, especially their meeting up with Jamie Foxx, who like Farrell, was not utilized enough. The explanation of how he got his name is cringeworthy yet hilarious at the same time. They make good use of his name in his limited appearances.
Bateman is as fantastically dry as ever, Day is good as the manic one and Sudeikis is solid throughout.
It gets a little slow even as the action seemingly picks up and at points it is more silly than funny, but overall I would say it was worth the money and a good distraction.
