It is one of the things that
has helped get us through the pandemic. Walks/bike rides around our block were
starting to get tedious to Connor and Harper, and with the rest our usual outlets
off limits, you could sense the rebellion growing in our household. When we
heard it was reopening at the end of May, we were ready.
Kudos to the zoo leadership,
too, as they had a plan. Timed tickets managed entry, social distancing was
encouraged and masks were required for indoor spaces like the aquarium and
penguin house. Its outdoor nature was already a point in its favor.
The zoo was already one of our favorite places to go and that hasn’t changed. It’s an easy hour-plus ride on the interstate and its interactive nature keeps the kids interested. Some of their attractions like the playground haven’t reopened, but Connor and Harper are still able to hang out with the goats and feed giraffes.
It might be some time before
the zoo is chugging at full steam with all of their exhibits and play places
open, but for now it is just right for us.
